Week 9 Bring it!

Teams Night is always one of the best nights of the year, also one of the hardest to organise so please read on!

Teams night.
•   This week will be one of RAW Tracks famous Team Challenge Night
•   How does this work?
•   As you sign on you will be allocated and assigned one of six team colours.
•   Your team colour will be attached to your left sleeve.
•   Teams will be Red, Blue, Yellow, Green, Orange and Purple
•   Every round  will score 5 , 3 , 2 and 1 point towards your team score.
•   The point scouring rounds will be 1 -4 (that’s every round)
•   Round 5 will be an Italian Pursuit using your colour team
•   Team Points will determine the Ride Off order (1 v 2 for 1st, 3 v 4 for 3rd and 5 V 6 for 5th)
•   The Italian Pursuit will determine the final results.

What is the reward?
•   Members of the teams individually will receive a bonus 10, 8, 6, 4, 2 and 1 point respectively towards the TWE series point-score.
•   Again this year riders will not earn individual points for placing in races.

Why are we doing this?
•   Because it is a heap of fun.
•   It is a great opportunity to socialise with people you normally wouldn’t
•   A Div 1 rider will intently watch how his Div 5 team mate is going and may offer a tip or two

Team’s night procedure
•   Please ensure that when you sign on you receive a colour strip and a safety pin
•   Record your colour on sign on sheet (in the correct column)
•   Please pin your colour to your left sleave

Team’s night seating

•   Again this year I will set up 6 flagged areas. One for each team colour.
•   It is encouraged that riders from each team sit in designated area.
•   At the conclusion of the warm up, all riders will be asked to relocate to their respective colour camps.

What if there is a draw on points
•   Should two teams be equal on points after round 4 and potentially be in different ride off’s (e.g. 2nd and 3rd tied)
•   In RAW Track style, Scissor Paper Rock between team captains will determine the higher position.

This week’s Races
•   Round 1   warm up Scratch
•   Round 2  no wheel-race this week.
•   Round 3  Kierins
•   Round 4   Miss’n’out Points race Motor Pace for lower grades
•   Round 5  Round 5  Team colour Super Italian Pursuit.

Explain these races
Kierin- The kierin is a motor-paced event that is very popular in Japan where it originated. In that country, huge amounts of money are bet on races and professional kierin riders command impressive salaries. It is similar to the match sprint, but features 6-8 riders on the track. A derny motorbike paces the riders from 25 km/h up to 45 km/h for the first few laps. During this time, riders jostle each other for the best position and this is often the roughest part of the event. With two and a half laps to go, the derny bike pulls off and the sprint is on. Team tactics are important here, as the leadout is often quite long. If one team can get two of their riders in the final, then they are at a distinct advantage.

Miss'N'Out Pointscore- This is a standard Miss'N'out however the derny (motorbike) follows the bunch at 100m. As the riders are eliminated they drop back to the derny and continue till all riders are behind the Derny. The Derny sets a controlled pace for 2 laps than pulls off to leave a Kierin style finish.
Scoring in the Miss'N'Out phase, each rider receives the corresponding points to the position they are eliminated i.e. first out =1point 5th out= 5 points etc. The winner of the Miss'N'out receives his/her corresponding points plus a bonus of 1 point.
The Kierin phase is scored as 8, 5, 3 and 2 (if bunch is greater than 9 riders) and 5, 3 ,2 and 1. (for bunches of 8 or less)
The winner of the race is the rider with the most points.

Italian Pursuit- this team event combines riders of all standards to form two teams at opposite sides of the track. Team captains organise their team so as the slowest riders are at the front of the train.  After the end of each lap, the leading rider pulls off completely, leaving the next to fight the wind. Therefore, the first rider has to do one lap, the second, two laps, and the last rider completes as many laps as in his team. Hence, the last rider typically has the best endurance. The pace of this race is continuously building and lead often changes hands between the opposing teams, until the final two riders are left to decide the race. If the handicapper does a good job this can be without a doubt one of the most exciting races as the excitement builds with the pace.

Junior Worlds Start
•   Best of luck to the Australian team in Glasgow
•   Jack Edwards will be riding the Omnium Qualifier at about 8:30 – 9pm our time on Friday Night so we will try to keep up with actual times.

A message from LACC to DHBC
Each week The Big friendly Vegan has been posting a cheeky gif on the DHBC forum

At RAW You will not be told what division you must rider
•   However you may be advised
•   So in my most subtle way of advice!
•   Troy Martin, Thomas Cornish, Kirk Cleaven and David Hutchinson how do you sleep at night after a night of racing Div 5
•   James Orton get out of Div 4
•   A Big question in all honesty and I am not sure of the answer to this one. Is Nigel Apps too strong for Div 4 or is he working hard in the right Division?
