all photo's www.actionsnaps.com.au The Feature race for week 3 was “The A’qto 1.5km Wheel-race” . To be eligible for this race, riders must first qualify by being in the top 3 of their respective graded warm up scratch race. Prizes for this prestigious race included cash and A’qto prize packs comprising of cool shirts and caps. A’qto is a Melbourne based company who supply cycling inspired street wear, check out their site at www.aqto.com.au . (http://www.actionsnaps.com.au/images/zoom/ARPDFH/wmpsc_8483.jpg) Stevens with a quick pre-race discussion. Initially, the lead group of Div 4 splintered apart early which effectively squandered any chance for the likes of Rebecca Peters who had to work hard before she could settle into a working group out front. At the same time Div 2 had made a perfect start and bridged the gap onto Div 3 which included former Australian representative Craig Chapman. The combined force of Div 2 and 3 easily swept past the leaders and looked to have the fire power to go all the way. However, race favourite and man of the season so far, Dave Stevens was quick to organise his scratch buddies to deliver him within striking distance before the bell lap. Coming into the bell lap Dave Stevens had only just joined the leaders and was at the tail of the five man group when Ian Dencker (Div 3) made a perfectly timed moved synchronised with the ringing of the bell. Immediately, young Jack Edwards (Div 2), kicked hard in pursuit, locking elbows with Andrew McLean on the way round. By bend three Edwards had drawn level with Dencker and it looked like we would have a drag race to the finish, until Dave Stevens finally got his 100+inch gear going and swept high around his lesser graded compatriots to take the win from their grasp. It was a tough battle and all of the top 5 riders were completely spent from their efforts.
