Title: Rules
Post by: Artson on March 26, 2010, 03:07:20 AM
Essentially the NSW tech regulations of Sprint events will be the basis of event rules:
These rules can be viewed here; http://www.nsw.cycling.org.au/site/cycling/nsw/downloads/Files/technical/regulations/NSWCF_Tech_Regs.pdf
However there are a number changes by the promoter mostly to ensure a faster moving program.

Starts
•   There is no draw for position; instead the rider whose name appears 2nd on the draw list is obliged to lead for the first half lap.
•   No holders are required: instead all races will be started off the bottom fence with the lead rider being the riders whose name appears 2nd on the draw.

During the race
•   Riders must travel at a minimum of walking pace the entire time
•   Track stands are not permitted.
•   The sprinters lane rules will be strictly adhered to in all races, to ensure there is a consistent enforcement even if the violation of this rule may not have directly affected the final result.

Withdrawals
•   A rider withdrawing from the event must notify the promoter and commissar at least 10 minutes before their scheduled draw.
•   In the event of a withdrawn rider it may be necessary to have a 3 up sprint, to ensure riders get there full quota of races. We hope to keep this to a minimum.

Sprinting rules are there to increase safety and help ensure fair-play.

There are four levels of penelty.
Unofficial warning: If a minor infringement of the rules has occurred, you will be called to your commisaire and be told what you have done wrong. No other action is incurred.

Warning: If an infringement of the rules has occurred, depending on the severity. You will be called to your commisaire and be told what you have done wrong and issued with a warning. This will be recorded and announced.

Relegation: Same as a warning with additional action. In two up sprints it will mean you will be place 2nd (last) regardless of where you have placed on the finish line. This will be recorded and announced.

Disqualification: For severe or repeated infringements. The rider is removed from the competition.

Note: Warning and Relegations are treated like a yellow card (in soccer) two yellows and it is an immediate Red Card (disqualification)

Clearly I hope that we will have no relegations or disqualifications during the series. However, the rules are essential not only to ensure you are doing the right thing but also that the person you are racing will do the right thing too.

For those of us who think it is impossible to hold a straight line at sprinting speed, please watch Theo Bos travelling 74km/h

Rules remain basically the same
Rules remain basically the same
However in the event of a rider withdrawing from the competition, the vacant spot will be replaced by the Sprinting Stig

how does it work?
•   The Stig will qualify in 200m fly on a 94 inch gear
•   His time will be noted and the Stig theoretical grade will be determined (1-8, 9-16, etc)
•   Should a rider in the same or higher grade withdraw the Stig will replace that rider and ride on any gear of their choice.
•   Should a rider in a lower grade withdraw, the stig will replace that rider but must ride a gear with 1 cog less or more per grade.
•   Example: A rider two grades lower withdraws, stig must ride 82inch or 110inch

In Addition, if we have a total entry list that is an odd number, the Stig must ride as slowest qualifier.
This will most likely see him on a 73inch or 130inch gear.

I know this sounds a little gimmicky, however it as a solution to a real problem that occurred on the first running of the sprint series.
I believe this is a good and workable solution.
