Title: Re: Week 3 (July 3) Post by: Artson on July 04, 2009, 11:06:33 AM It was an awesome night of racing!
The Round 1 warm-up scratch races were all held at a high pace with a decent length. The Round 2 Pro-components Wheel-race was dominated by div 4 but won by a div 3 rider. Round 3's 1 lap screamers were as always explosive. The Snowball in Round 4 was won by tactical decisions rather than aggression. The final race of the night was the time blaster, which against all expectations went off. Dulwich Hill Bicycle Club regains lead in Sydney’s premier track cycling competition DULWICH HILL, TUESDAY JULY 7th: Dulwich Hill Bicycle Club (DHBC) has regained the lead in Sydney’s premier track cycling competition, RAW Track. DHBC returned to the lead of the Tineli Club Challenge in the 15-week series after last Friday’s round of the event, thanks to strong performances across all five grades and the novice category. The club led the competition after round one, but fell behind the Illawarra club in week two. The best-performed DHBC riders on the night were Jonathan Gowlland and Michael Chidgey, who placed second and third respectively in the open wheel race, the only race on the night to feature riders from all grades. Several other DHBC riders won heats or placed in finals on the night, which also featured the debut of two new riders for the club. One debutant, Jessica Norman, took out her “one lap screamer” while Victoria Armstrong competed strongly in her first ride on the Olympic velodrome. DHBC now leads the weekly competition with 898 points, ahead of Illawarra on 762 and Central Coast on 532. DHBC Track Captain Simon Llewellyn praised the efforts of his team. “Wheel races have long been the pinnacle of Australian track cycling and require a lot of skill and ability to win, so for Jonathan and Michael to place in the open wheel race is an exceptional effort,” he said. “I’m also very proud of the turnout the club mustered for the night. We had eighteen riders compete, the largest representation for a Sydney club.” Llewellyn said he hoped the club can now build on its lead. “When we realised that Illawarra pulled back the lead I put out the call and it was answered,” he said. “It has just been amazing to watch over the past couple of years how much our club has grown on the track. From only having one to two riders compete in RAW four years ago and sitting about 30th, we have shot up the ranks and reached 5th place last year. Now we believe we can win the competition. Everybody is super motivated and we have a really friendly competitive attitude which is amazing to be around.” Caption: DHBC riders Tim Llewellyn (left) and Simon Llewellyn compete in the Madison event at RAW Track, staged at the Olympic cycling venue, Dunc Gray Velodrome. Can't remember, think I was somewhere near the back. Othy, do you remember? 250Mtr sprint There's only one place I come in a 250mtr race and that's last and that's exactly what happened. Snowflake Race, 15 laps I knew I had no chance, but that didn't stop me going for some glory, getting some of the early small points. Othy and I sprinted out, we got a huge lead on field and we took out the points for about the first 5 laps, then we got caught, Othy retired, I cruised around for a few more laps and retired too. Combined Div3/Div4 Scratch Race, 12lap I think I might of been the only Div3 rider in the race, don't know. I had seriously toasted legs, after doing 2 spin classes before work this morning, plus the races so far. However the pace was modest and when I ended up on the front about mid race, I upped the pace for a lap and then rolled. I ended back on the inside and did the maths, that I should hit the front again with 2 laps to go and then go for it, however the riders in front of me didn't roll quick enough and I was boxed in, while a rider attacked around the top, there was nothing I could do, then beanzy moved up the track a little and there was a gap so I took it. 3 of us took chase, but that attacking rider had too much distance, so it was a race between us for the minor placings, Ian, a fellow DHBC rider rolled over the top of the other rider and so did I to take 3rd. Watching the video later, another rider nearly rolled me, I was unaware, so I should of sprinted harder at the end, to fend off this rider. |
