This was due to the nature of the program and the very long endurance races in round 4. In future I will try and rectify the program to ensure we finish at a more respectable hour. (http://www.actionsnaps.com.au/images/zoom/VTDSHI/wmosc_3783.jpg) Round 1 The warm up scratch races this week had an extra importance with the round being a component of the season long Hillbrick series. The series is well on its way and we have a clear leader at this early stage. Alex Ramsey (Dulwich Hill) has hit the front in the 7 race series. (http://www.actionsnaps.com.au/images/zoom/HFDCCJ/wmosc_3635.jpg) (http://img199.imageshack.us/img199/2783/hillbrick.jpg) SERIES (http://www.hillbrick.com.au/images/stories/gallery/gallery_0041.jpg) In Div 1 the crowd was treated to seeing some pure speed in the form of multiple National Champion and World Junior Silver Medalist Paul Fellows who blew the bunch off his wheels in the final 200m. (http://www.actionsnaps.com.au/images/zoom/NTJKMS/wmosc_3690.jpg) Round 3 A very impressive feature of this week was the number of women racers present. Division 4 alone contained nine women, which was too many for one heat of the Kirien. An inspiring display of speed and skill by both Caitlyn Todd and Catharine Culvenor saw these two riders take good wins over the other girls. (http://www.actionsnaps.com.au/images/zoom/BSYNAE/wmosc_3734.jpg) The final heat of Div 1 was a beauty. Of the Six riders, five of them have represented Australia at some stage. I have included the video on you tube for you to see the result yourself. www.youtube.com/watch?v=6CxkGOgoAOM Round 4 Miss’n’Out Point Scores are one of my favourite races, as it combines one of the most tactical events with one of the most explosive races. The Division 3 race was a cracker. In the Miss’n’Out Section it came down to the two youngest riders of the bunch with Bradley Heffernan and Jack Edwards sprinting for the big points. Amazingly, when the two riders dropped back to the derny, a gap opened at the front and both youngsters slotted in on the derny. Showing true grit they again both figured in the final sprint to be head and shoulders above their much larger competition. (http://www.actionsnaps.com.au/images/zoom/HFDCCJ/wmosc_3647.jpg) Division 1 road the gruelling “duelling derny”. Many jaws dropped to see Tirian McManus dig deep to place second to Ben Harvey. Tirian more noted to be a track sprinter showed amazing endurance to be one of the final two survivors to hang on to the derny. Let’s not forget he is only 15. Warmup scatch race Midfield finish. I'm improving but not setting the world on fire Motor Paced with 2 1/2 laps racing after the motorbike pulls out My strategy was to get to the front of the motor pace, but the way the groups were split up didn't allow that strategy. After the motorbike pulled out, it was clear that my legs were too toasted from the week, it was someone elses race Miss'n out with motor paced sprint The Miss'n out is my race but I botched it and was eliminated with 5 riders left, I should of put a bit more effort into that sprint and stayed to the end. The only way left for me place was to win the motor pace sprint. I took my place behind the motor pace and when the sprint started I moved my way up, but I was struggling with the pace and had to take myself from the outside line to an inside one to use the track height to gather the neccessary speed. Having found the pace I needed, I moved up the track again, but there was no suitable way around at the outside, so I dropped down again and went thru on the inside, getting up behind the leader, but alas no gap opened up leaving me pinned inside not collecting any points in the sprint. Combined Didn't contest as I needed to get home at a reasonable time to get up in the morning to get to Mudgee |
