Spirito are offering the winner a custom paint job
here is how it works: Bring your track bike to RAW Track (date to be confirmed ) Our expert judges will mark the bike based on the following criteria;
•   Material
•   Manufacturer
•   Structural integrity
•   Current paint job
•   Bike history
•   SWAG value

The higher the score the bigger the handicap.
You can then go and find someone or yourself to ride the beast in a 3 lap handicap. Winner of the race wins the Spirito Custom paint job.

RAW TRACK
2017

first race 7:05pm

This week’s Races
•   Round 1   Warm up Scratch
•   Round 2 Stay Tuned it might happen yet!
•   Round 1 lap Screamer
•   Round 4  Div 5 Scratch Race,  Div 4-2 Madi-Lead Div 1 Madison

•   Round 5 Combines +  RAW Crawl
Note: Point scoring rounds are in Blue.

Explain these races

1 lap Drag race- Riders draw lots to start in position 1-4 up the track. The riders start in a Time trial hold (No-Push) for whistle start. First one back wins. Easy

Madilead- The pace in this race is set by a Madison team (see Madison). The bunch follows the Madison team for ??laps until, with 5 laps remaining the Madison leaders take off leaving the bunch to sought out the winner in scratch race style finish. The Idea of this race is to allow the lower grades to experience following a Madison change (which is a key skill in learning to ride a madison). The pace of this race can often change with the experienced leaders putting in a few hard attacks to stir up the bunch.

Madison- A high speed, two person continuous race relay. Think of tag team wrestling meets track cycling - while one partner is racing the other is resting at the top of the track. This race is named after Madison Square Garden in New York where the event was first held. Two man teams contest the event, which is typically an endurance event. Only one rider from each team is allowed in the race at a given time, meaning that teams must take it in turn each lap (or more) to have a rider in the race. Changeovers are quite dangerous, but impressive to watch when done well - one rider circles around waiting for his teammate, who joins hands and imparts his momentum to the slower rider. At RAW Track we usually ride this on a scratch race format reference www.cyclingnews.com
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7XZ4_QbZJks&feature=channel

Non Madison
•   Div 1 riders who are not riding the madison are invited to ride the Div 2 Madi-Lead
•   Whilst results will be recorded, only the top 4 div 2 riders will receive points towards the overall

RAW Crawl - There will be two graded races for the RAW Crawl. A whistle will blow to start the race. Riders have 10 seconds to make their way on to the track; any rider not on the track by this time is eliminated.  Any rider who crosses the start line or comes off the track is eliminated. Any rider comes in contact with the track (foot down etc.) or another rider is eliminated. A second whistle will blow after 1 minute but before 2 minutes (random) this will indicate the start of the one lap race. You can work out the tactics from here.

Happy to announce TWE are back again to sponsor the point series

Points for 2017 series

•   For every week you attend you receive 10 points
•   In rounds 3 and 4 top 4 place getters receive 5, 3, 2 and 1point respectively
•   Last 4 weeks place getter points are doubled.

Again in 2017- No series prize for winners of Div 5
•   Div 5 was introduced to be a stepping stone to riding in a higher grad. In the past, some riders have not progressed to a higher grade because they were highly ranked for the point series. Even though they had progressed in speed and ability.
•   Riders will continue to score points in Div 5 and can take them up to Div 4 (as per RAW Track Constitution)
•   As in previous years Trophies are still awarded to the top place getters, along with the season DVD, however they receive no money or tickets for the prize pool.

Should I go up a grade?
• At RAW you will be never be told what grade you have to ride.
• However your peers may politely suggest you change grades.
• Added to this, I may offer some advice, in an attempt to pre-empt your peers.
• In the history of RAW, the “choose your own” grade policy has only been seriously rorted on three occasions, are you interested in being the fourth?

Tour de France game @ RAW, mostly for Giggles.
•   Bring an extra $1 coin
•   I will have a start list of TDF riders
•   Pick the rider who will be in Yellow for Friday 7th July
•   Winner takes pool
•   If multiple people are winners, Pool is divided equally to the nearest $
•   If no one picks correctly, pool jackpots to Yellow for Friday 14th July

Week 2 June 23  2017

Rides of the Night for week 2
•   Div 3 Win’n’Out: Selina Ho’s second place was both a ride of speed and patience. She turned on the speed to put herself in a position to win but she quickly realised Jarrod Williams was possibly too fast so she patiently waited to launch for the second sprint.
•   Div 2 Win’n’Out: Gary, Gav and Brett Stitch up
•   Div 3 Miss’N’Out  Lucie Fityus boxing Selina Ho out of the game.
•   Div 2 Miss'N'Out : Dave Try looked beaten with only three riders left, but somehow weaved his way through to put Darren Cash out
•   The First Combine: Sandy Nava  last meter win over Tommy Conneely who had lead for almost 80% of the race.
•   Time Blaster: Stephen Cuffs win @ 52.6km/h was a master class in team work. The Div 2 sprinters nailed down a solid first 7 laps which left the still large group some 4 seconds up on schedule. The remaining riders maintained the speed to enter into the last ten laps still up on schedule. But then quiet dramatically the rider numbers dropped until with 6 laps to go it was down to just two riders. McManus buried himself until 2 laps to go leaving Cuffy to win it.

Explain these races
Win’N’ Out This is the opposite of a Miss’N’Out race. After a designated number of laps a whistle is blown for the first sprint. The winner of the first sprint is deemed the winner of the race and allowed to carefully withdraw from the race. Each proceeding lap sprint will produce the consecutive places from 2nd to 4th. Tip if you go for a sprint make sure you win it.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=28iqHThZspM&feature=channel

Miss 'N' Out- the bike equivalent of musical chairs, Sometimes called the elimination race or "Devil's Race," every lap the last rider across the finish line is pulled out of the race until only two riders remain.  The remaining two riders are given the bell and  manoeuvre themselves before the final all out sprint to the finish line.  Keep your eyes peeled to the back of the field that's where all the excitement lies in this event.

RAW Track
Race All Winter Track
Dunc Grey  Velodrome, Sydney, Australia
Week 1  June 16 2016

Week 1 of RAW was spectacular with fast paced racing throughout the program. As per normal for the first week of RAW, many competitors were trying to find there grade with several riders standing out as potential up-graders. None more so  than David Try in div 2 who from the first race of the night stood out as a brand new Div 1 rider.
The sprint round was not only fast on the track but also fast in the process I think we punched through the whole sprint program in about 25-30 minutes. In div 2 World Masters Sprint Champion had to dig deep to beat David Try.
Although the Division 1 grade was light in numbers (only 8 ) it was strong in horsepower with Tirian McManus, Thomas Cornish and Rohan Hayden-Smith trading off wins surprisingly John Trovas was a consistent second to the rotating leaders on the majority of occasions. If tonight was an inkling into the series we will have a stupendous battle amongst those four protagonists.
Div 3 rider Eliza Bennett showed she was in the right grade for 2017 with a gutsy attack in the Scratch Race although she didn't figure highly in the results she was impressive to her approach to RAW track racing and I think she may be one to watch for the season.  Graham Cockerton also in div 3 is a rider who I know little about but shows impressive track knowledge. I look forward to seeing him being one of those riders who scores consistently through clever tactics. Is Graham Cockerton the new Geoff Baxter?
Sandro Nava in div 5 may have dominated his division but he made the typical tragic Raw Track mistake of correcting my pronunciation of his name. Stay tuned to see how this pans out.

Bring it for week 2 of RAW
