Explain these races

Explain these races

1.5 lap Screamers - -– Riders draw lots to start in position 1-5 up the track. The riders start in a Time trial hold (No-Push) for whistle start on the pursuiters line in back straight. First one to complete 1 1/2 wins. Easy.

Poker Race- ran on the same rules as the Point'a'Lap race however, instead of earning points you earn cards. On the first lap the first rider across the line wins  a card, on any additional point won you receive an extra card. The winner of the race is the rider who has the highest ranked card Ace Hearts being the highest and 2 of Spades the lowest. Don't worry you don't have to carry the cards with you, we keep them on the desk.

The Apple To Zucchini  FAT-MANS Wheel-Race   - Entrants will be measured at the velodrome. Entrant’s weigh-in will be done in cycling race clothing with no shoes. A pat down will take place for any contraband (extra weight). Your height and weight will be entered into the laptop to determine your BMI. The top 10 BMI’s will qualify for the race. The lowest BMI will start at 0m. The highest BMI will start at ~120m Everyone else will start at corresponding marks determined by the above formula on %

This week at RAW Track will be the much anticipated “Fat-Mans Wheel-race”

Promotional Video
The History of the Fat-Man. “Behind the Fat”

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CHhzQByuDag

Since its conception ten years ago in a discussion over several beers in the Handle Bar Tavern, the topic of this race has been a fixture of every track cyclist’s conversations. Debate has raged as who would be, by weight, the strongest rider.

This unique handicap has been one that bucks the trend of dieticians all around the world. The handicap has been by weight, whereby you are rewarded with a better starting position the heavier you are.

Changes were made in 2010 to incorporate our shorter statured fat riders to ensure our fatmans wheelrace was reserved for those of high fat content rather than those big tall guys of high percentile muscle content. So again in 2018 the qualification will be on BMI (Body Mass Index). This should aid our short podgy friends.

Here’s how it works
•   Entrants will be measured at the velodrome.
•   Entrant’s weigh-in will be done in cycling race clothing with no shoes. A pat down will take place for any contraband (extra weight).
•   Your height and weight will be entered into the laptop to determine your BMI.
•   The top 10 BMI’s will qualify for the race.
•   The lowest BMI will start at 0m
•   The highest BMI will start at 130m
•   Everyone else will start at corresponding marks determined by the above formula on %

The Race
The event itself will be in a 1km Handicap.  Riders must provide their own sturdy handler for the start.  The winner of the race will receive
•   Your weight in $1 coins i.e. 105kg = $105
•   Personalised Sport Nutrition Plan from Apple to Zucchini
•   Perpetual Fat-Mans Trophy

2017 FAT-Mans Wheel Race
1   Mick Marshall      110kg
2   Mathew Hynes
3   David Och
4   Luke O'Callaghan

So who will be determined the Fat-Mans Champion for 2018? Be at the Dunc Gray Velodrome this Friday from 7:30pm to find out.

2008      Mathew Hynes     124kg

RAW TRACK  2018
first race 7:30pm

This week’s Races
•   Round 1   Warm up Scratch
•   Round 2  -- no race
•   Round 3  Handicaps (4-6 riders 2 laps, Start top and bottom)
•   Round 4  Snowball

•   Round 5 Combines
Note: Point scoring rounds are in Blue.

Explain these races

Handicaps – These will be run in heats of approximately 4-6 riders over two laps (500m) I will determine your starting position upon entry to the track. Some riders will start off the top fence and some  will start off the bottom fence about 20m behind. Whistle start.
 False start punishment.
•   Official notes minor false start = relegation of 1 position
•   Official notes significant false start = relegation to last of the group (may differ to Last)
•   Official notes major false start = relegation to last.

Snowball- Sometimes called a progressive point-score. The race is run similar to a point score-however each lap is a sprint for first place only with the points earned corresponding to the laps completed i.e. the winner of the first sprint gets 1 point winner of the 10th sprint gets 10points. The overall winner is the rider with the most points.

Watch these Battles develop in the TWE Series

Division 1
Shaun McWilliams Vs Blake Ryan Vs Tom Cornish
Shaun has impressed everyone in 2018, he seems to be an all-round track rider, Whilst Blake cannot be considered a one trick pony. Blake has great staying ability. Whilst he suffers in the endurance events he still outlasts the pure speedsters.
The wild card is Tom Cornish. Whilst he is now away for National duties he will return in time for double points and may well be unstoppable.

Division 2
The Old Man v’s the young gun. David Browne has been there done that, when it comes to RAW Track. There is no doubt he has the smarts and the speed to win the series. But Finely Moutter is still developing and in 1 months’ time he will actually be even faster than he is now, the same cannot be said for Bronwie.

Division 3
ATM it is a three-way battle between Rodrigo Notaro, Jarrah Anderson and Tess Wallace. The final result will depend on if Rodrigo goes up to div 2 or not. If Rodrigo decides to stay I can’t see him getting beaten.

Division 4
Here I thought Nigel Apps had div 4 sewn up with his reluctance to take on div 3 he seemed to be in an unbeatable position, however Claudia Marks has been unstoppable over the last few weeks and is now just one-point shy of the lead. Don’t forget Nigel’s son Mack is also getting faster and may yet get one up on his father.

Division 5
Similar to last year Georgia Bonora has the lead going into the final 6 weeks but just behind her is a heap of familiar faces to Georgia ready to snap up the lead especially when it goes double points

Explain these races

Explain these races

Keirin- The keirin is a motorpaced event that is very popular in Japan where it originated. In that country, huge amounts of money are bet on races and professional keirin riders command impressive salaries. It is similar to the match sprint, but features 6-8 riders on the track. A derny motorbike paces the riders from 25 km/h up to 45 km/h for the first few laps. During this time, riders jostle each other for the best position and this is often the roughest part of the event. With two and a half laps to go, the derny bike pulls off and the sprint is on. Team tactics are important here, as the leadout is often quite long. If one team can get two of their riders in the final, then they are at a distinct advantage. reference www.cyclingnews.com

Motorpace- A derny motorbike paces the riders from the start at 45 km/h for the first few laps. The Derny rider will up the pace to a steady 48km/h. During this time, riders will rotate positions completing a max of one lap behind the derny. With about four laps to go, the derny bike pulls off and a standard scratch race starts. This event is intended to be an endurance race, with the pace of the derny ensuring fatigue has set in by the time it swings off.

Included in tonight's Program will be The "KUSTOM KEIRIN" final

•   VIE13 are not only the Club Challenge sponsor they are also sponsoring a KUSTOM KEIRIN Series.
•   Round 2's Keirins will contribute to the TWE points series, however they will also be a qualifier for the KUSTOM KEIRIN finals.
•   The top 4-6 riders from each grade will qualify for Round 3's KUSTOM KEIRIN final.
•   Round 3 will not carry points but will have prizes for the winner.

EXAMPLE of qualifiers when your grade has:
•   2 heats = Top 3 of each heat qualify
•   3 heats = Top 2 of each heat qualify
•   4+ heat = winner only qualifies
