RAW TRACK
2019

first race 7:30pm

This week’s Program
• Round 1 warm up Scratch
• Round 2 Junior Worlds Demonstration (John and Rohan)
• Round 3 Keirin
• Round 4  Endurance Motorpace
• Round 5 Combines + CIRCULUS Time Blaster 8:45 for $100

Explain these races
Kierin- The keirin is a motorpaced event that is very popular in Japan where it originated. In that country, huge amounts of money are bet on races and professional keirin riders command impressive salaries. It is similar to the match sprint, but features 6-8 riders on the track. A derny motorbike paces the riders from 25 km/h up to 45 km/h for the first few laps. During this time, riders jostle each other for the best position and this is often the roughest part of the event. With two and a half three laps to go, the derny bike pulls off and the sprint is on. Team tactics are important here, as the leadout is often quite long. If one team can get two of their riders in the final, then they are at a distinct advantage. reference www.cyclingnews.com
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6CxkGOgoAOM&feature=channel

Motorpace- A derny motorbike paces the riders from the start at 45 km/h for the first few laps. The Derny rider will up the pace to a steady 48km/h. During this time, riders will rotate positions completing a max of one lap behind the derny. With about four laps to go, the derny bike pulls off and a standard scratch race starts. This event is intended to be an endurance race, with the pace of the derny ensuring fatigue has set in by the time it swings off.

RAW Track Riders Representing Australia
RAW Track riders John Trovas and Rohan Hayden-Smith are going to the Junior World Track Championships 2019
This year RAW Track will donate $1 for every rider that rides this week.  By attending RAW Track on week 2 July 05 you will be supporting their aspirations at Jnr Worlds. Additionally we will be “Passing the Hat” to raise a small portion of funds.  Of Course I will have a feature event to show off our Australian Junior Representative current form in spectacular fashion.

The RAW Junior Worlds fund raiser.
•   Over the past 15 years we have sent off our RAW junior world riders in style. Raising thousands of dollars in financial support.
•   In those years junior national representatives have always been hit with a significant Levey (usually around $8000)
•   In 2018 Cycling Australia changed its model and now pays for the majority of the financial burden.
•   John Trovas and Rohan Hayden Smith have been selected to represent their country in Frankfurt, Germany for the 2019 World championships in August.
•   Although the majority of the fees are covered there are still some significant overheads
•   The RAW Junior worlds Support night has become a tradition and showcases our young talent.
•   Instead of targeting $1000 we will still show our support but with a target of a few hundred dollars.

2018 Junior world representative Tom Cornish will be at RAW showing his support

So to Support John and Rohan you can:
1.   Be there and Race (RAW will donate $1 per racing rider)
2.   Bring an extra friend, we are hoping to have 100 riders.
3.   Bring an extra couple of $$...to put into the Hat
4.    Share this post

It was so good to get RAW finally started for 2019 however, for me it didn’t feel like RAW until the division 2 riders took to the track for the warm up scratch race. It was an uncharacteristic start to the season with 2 falls in the first 3 races.
Understandably I was feeling a bit out of sorts. When the div 2 riders launched into an extraordinarily high pace, that has become typical of this grades warm up scratch race that I finally felt like “this is RAW track”
The night had in my opinion 3 outstanding riders with 3 very different characteristics. In Division 3 Bankstown Sports CC rider Michael West stood out as not only someone who is fast enough to win this division but also someone willing to put himself into a world of hurt to achieve a result. In the sprint round he easily showed his speed, but it was in the endurance round (point’a’lap) that Michael showed true grit.

In Div 2 it was the young U15 rider from Orange CC Ben Anderson, that stood head and shoulders above the rest of the field. Despite his restricted gearing the Australian champion showed glimpses of his potential as he managed to destroy a class field of riders.

Finally, in the top-grade Dubbo’s Kurt Ether proved to be in a different league as he managed to ride clear of the filed on two occasions. In the final race of the night Kurt was literally, toying with the field when he hit the front with 4 laps remaining. His run to the finish, despite being rolled on the line, only earnt him the respect of his division 1 compatriots.

RAW TRACK
2019
STARTS THIS WEEK

RAW Track (Race All Winter Track) is back for 2019

first race 7:30pm

First week’s Program
• Round 1 warm up Scratch
• Round 2 no race (wheel-races run at best every second week pending sponsor)
• Round 3 sprint (6 up’s over 3 laps)
• Round 4 Point’a’Lap  (1st point after 3 laps)

• Round 5 Combines

Blue indicates Series Points scoring rounds

Explain these races
Sprint- RAW Track sprints are usually run as 4-6 ups over 3 laps the first few laps are usually spent sizing your opponents up and positioning yourself for the optimum explosion to the finish. It is not uncommon for a sneaky rider to attack early in the hope of holding a lead to the finish. The sprint is a test of power, speed and above all, tactics.

Point'a'Lap- - The race is run similar to a point score-however each lap is a sprint for first place only and worth one point. The overall winner is the rider with the most points.

No Novice grade week 1
We are hoping for a big turn out on week 1 so to speed things up we will be going with no novice grade.
This is a great opportunity for novice riders to come and see the flow of things
The Novice grade will start week 2 (July 05)

Points for 2019 TWE series starts week 1
• For every week you attend you receive 10 points
• Everyone is allowed to miss 2 RAW nights without losing too many points.
