Explain these races
Wheel-Race- - A Wheelrace is a handicap event open to a wide range of riders. The race distance is typically 1000-2000 metres.  Riders start from a variety of positions around the track, with their handicap (or position) based on current grading and past performances. The top riders start from the 'scratch mark' - which is the absolute race distance - but they are sometimes over 200 metres behind the first riders who have that much less distance to travel. The scratch riders - normally top professionals - are the only competitors who have to cover the entire race distance.  reference www.cyclingnews.com
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=epn2EAFZCLY&feature=channel
This week’s Wheel-races will be graded with a max of 14 riders per heat, so please listen in to how I split it up (should your division need to be split).
Your handicap will be posted below in next message soon.

Scratch- This is the simplest type of track cycling event.  Racers start in a group, race a set number of laps and the first rider across the line wins.

RAW Crawl   - There will be two graded races for the RAW Crawl. A whistle will blow to start the race. Riders have 10 seconds to make their way on to the track; any rider not on the track by this time is eliminated.  Any rider who crosses the start line or comes off the track is eliminated. Any rider comes in contact with the track (foot down etc.) or another rider is eliminated. A second whistle will blow after 1 minute but before 2 minutes (random) this will indicate the start of the one lap race. You can work out the tactics from here.

This week at RAW Track will be the much anticipated “Fat-Mans Wheel-race”

Promotional Video
The History of the Fat-Man. “Behind the Fat”

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CHhzQByuDag

Since its conception twelve years ago in a discussion over several beers in the Handle Bar Tavern, the topic of this race has been a fixture of every track cyclist’s conversations. Debate has raged as who would be, by weight, the strongest rider.

This unique handicap has been one that bucks the trend of dieticians all around the world. The handicap has been by weight, whereby you are rewarded with a better starting position the heavier you are.

Changes were made in 2010 to incorporate our shorter statured fat riders to ensure our fatmans wheelrace was reserved for those of high fat content rather than those big tall guys of high percentile muscle content. So again in 2018 the qualification will be on BMI (Body Mass Index). This should aid our short podgy friends.

Here’s how it works
•   Entrants will be measured at the velodrome.
•   Entrant’s weigh-in will be done in cycling race clothing with no shoes. A pat down will take place for any contraband (extra weight).
•   Your height and weight will be entered into the laptop to determine your BMI.
•   The top 10 BMI’s will qualify for the race.
•   The lowest BMI will start at 0m
•   The highest BMI will start at 130m
•   Everyone else will start at corresponding marks determined by the above formula on %

The Race
The event itself will be in a 1km Handicap.  Riders must provide their own sturdy handler for the start.  The winner of the race will receive
•   Your weight in $1 coins i.e. 105kg = $105
•   Personalised Sport Nutrition Plan from Apple to Zucchini
•   Perpetual Fat-Mans Trophy

2018 FAT-Mans Wheel Race
1   Safyan Saleem   123kg
2   Luke O'Callaghan
3   Mark Tatarinoff

So who will be determined the Fat-Mans Champion for 2019? Be at the Dunc Gray Velodrome this Friday from 7:30pm to find out.

2008      Mathew Hynes     124kg
2009      Aaron Latinovic    107kg

Explain these races

1.5 lap Screamers - -– Riders draw lots to start in position 1-5 up the track. The riders start in a Time trial hold (No-Push) for whistle start on the pursuiters line in back straight. First one to complete 1 1/2 wins. Easy.

Poker Race- ran on the same rules as the Point'a'Lap race however, instead of earning points you earn cards. On the first lap the first rider across the line wins  a card, on any additional point won you receive an extra card. The winner of the race is the rider who has the highest ranked card Ace Hearts being the highest and 2 of Spades the lowest. Don't worry you don't have to carry the cards with you, we keep them on the desk.

New Rule for 2019 “Poker Race” –
Poker rules- which means a Pair beats Ace high. This new rule means that the more cards you win your chances of winning dramatically increase, even if the Ace of Hearts is gone.
Poker Ranking

For Week 7
Friday, August 09,   2019
RAW TRACK
 2019  TEAMS  NIGHT!

4 colours- Black, White, Red and Blue
first race 7:30pm
This week’s Races
•   Round 1   Warm up Scratch
•   Round 2  Sprint (4 up @ 2 Laps)
•   Round 3  The Colourful SNOWBALL
•   Round 4  div 5 final event
•   Round 5 Super Italian (all riders except div 5)

Explain these races
Sprint - - at RAW Track, sprints are usually run as 4-6 ups over 2-4 laps the first laps are usually spent sizing your opponents up and positioning yourself for the optimum explosion to the finish. It is not uncommon for a sneaky rider to attack early in the hope of holding a lead to the finish. The sprint is a test of power, speed and above all, tactics.

Point race- Riders must score points by sprinting for intermittent sprints every ?? laps for bonuses (5, 3, 2, 1 points). Lapping the field scores a bonus 20 points, consequently losing a lap to the field scores -20points. (however at RAW lapped riders are withdrawn with no penalty to their score) The final sprint is worth double points.(however at RAW we generally only have 3 sprints so-"no double on last sprint") Winner of the race is the rider with the most points, ties are split by position on final sprint. (however at RAW later sprints take precedence)

Snowball- Some times called a progressive point-score. The race is run similar to a point score-however each lap is a sprint for first place only with the points earned corresponding to the laps completed i.e. the winner of the first sprint gets 1 point winner of the 10th sprint gets 10points. The overall winner is the rider with the most points.
Super Italian: Watch this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HZt4GawuJV8

The Colourful Snowball - New for 2019, instead of the standard Snowball in round 4 we will be conducting a slight variation to this tactical race. Riders will earn points for their "team Colour" and not for themselves. These points will be instantly added to the teams total

Teams Night is always one of the best nights of the year,
also one of the hardest to organise so please read on!

[/color]

Teams night.
This week will be one of RAW Tracks Famous Team Challenge Night
How does this work?
•   As you sign on you will be allocated and assigned one of four team colours.
•   Your team colour will be a T-Shirt you must wear.
•   Teams will be Red, Blue, White and Black
•   Every race you will score 5, 3, 2 and 1 point towards your team score.
•   The point scouring rounds will be 1, 2, 3 and 4
•   Round 5 will be a super Italian Pursuit using your colour team
•   Team Points will determine the Ride Off order (1 v 2 for 1st and 3 v 4 for 3rd)
•   The Italian Pursuit will determine the final results.

What is the reward?
•   Members of the teams individually will receive a bonus 10, 8, 6 and 4 points respectively towards the TWE series point-score.
•   Again this year riders will not earn individual points for placing in races.

Why are we doing this?
•   Because it is a heap of fun.
•   It is a great opportunity to socialise with people you normally wouldn’t
•   A Div 1 rider will intently watch how his Div 5 team mate is going and may offer a tip or two

Team’s night procedure
•   Please ensure that when you sign on you receive a colour T-shirt
•   Record your colour on sign on sheet (in the correct column)
•   Please wear your colour T-Shirt
•   You can bring own T shirt or Jersey but it must be predominantly your team colour

Team’s night seating

•   Again this year I will set up 4 flagged areas. One for each team colour.
•   It is encouraged/ compulsory that riders from each team sit in designated area.
•   At the start of the night, all riders will be asked to relocate to their respective colour camps.

What if there is a draw on points
•   Should two teams be equal on points after round 4 and potentially be in different ride off’s (e.g. 2nd and 3rd tied)
•   In RAW Track style, Scissor Paper Rock between team captains will determine the higher position.

Trying to manipulate the Teams
•   Each Year, certain individuals try to beat the system by getting a particular team for whatever reason; (Friends, club mates or good riders)
•   To this I say “Don’t” Chill-Out, let the cards fall where they may. It is more fun this way.
