Explain these races

Kierin- The keirin is a motorpaced event that is very popular in Japan where it originated. In that country, huge amounts of money are bet on races and professional keirin riders command impressive salaries. It is similar to the match sprint, but features 6-8 riders on the track. A derny motorbike paces the riders from 25 km/h up to 45 km/h for the first few laps. During this time, riders jostle each other for the best position and this is often the roughest part of the event. With two and a half laps to go, the derny bike pulls off and the sprint is on. Team tactics are important here, as the leadout is often quite long. If one team can get two of their riders in the final, then they are at a distinct advantage. reference www.cyclingnews.com

Motorpace- A derny motorbike paces the riders from the start at 45 km/h for the first few laps. The Derny rider will up the pace to a steady 48km/h. During this time, riders will rotate positions completing a max of one lap behind the derny. With about four laps to go, the derny bike pulls off and a standard scratch race starts. This event is intended to be an endurance race, with the pace of the derny ensuring fatigue has set in by the time it swings off.

Points for 2014 series

•   For every week you attend you receive 10 points
•   In rounds 3, and 4 top 4 place getters receive 5, 3, 2 and 1point respectively
•   Last 3 weeks place getter points are doubled.

Again in 2014- No series prize for winners of Div 5
•   Div 5 was introduced to be a stepping stone to riding in a higher grade In the past, some riders have not progressed to a higher grade because they were highly ranked for the point series. Even though they had progressed in speed and ability.
•   To return Div 5 to its intended purpose and encourage riders to step up, there will be no series prize for Div 5 in 2014 Riders will continue to score points in Div 5 and can take them up to Div 4 (as per RAW Track Constitution)
•   As in previous years  Trophies are still awarded to the top place getters, along with the season DVD, however they receive no money or tickets for the prize pool.

6 month Licence available
•   The Cycling Australia 6 month licences are available from July 1
•   If you wish to join ATTA-nsw, they have a representative at RAW track that can assist you.

Should I go up a grade?
• At RAW you will be never be told what grade you have to ride.
• However your peers may politely suggest you change grades.
• Added to this, I may offer some advice, in an attempt to pre-empt your peers.
• In the history of RAW, the “choose your own” grade policy has only been seriously rorted on three occasions, are you interested in being the fourth?
• Just putting it out there Nosh Mistry, Brendan Barrett, James Orton, Ben Cooper, Chris Mathewson and Scott Mathews.
